Brain Fitness exercises “wake up your brain”
just like physical fitness exercises “wake up your body"

In early 2020, Tee and Paul Barr were prevented by the global coronavirus pandemic from presenting any of their well-established Southern California-based Brain Fitness programs. Recognizing the needs of our longtime clients, we began to develop this website to reach them and many others in a more widely accessible format. Using today’s popular video conferencing technologies combined with our website, we are excited to present this new platform dedicated to your cognitive well-being. Now you, your family, and caregivers are able to easily integrate Brain Fitness and Wake Up Your Brain!

Brain Fitness...Use It OR Lose It!

Focus is Key...

You Can't Remember
Something You Don't Know!

A: Research studies have found that cognitive stimulation, which we refer to as “waking up your brain,” helps in fighting and slowing down the progression of dementia. We offer many different Brain Fitness exercises that stimulate the six cognitive domains of the brain:

  • Short-Term Memory involves questions like “Where did I put my keys?” (and begins to challenge us anywhere from age 30 to 50)
  • Long-Term Memory involves past knowledge, including memorization (such as recalling the Pledge of Allegiance)
  • Critical Thinking involves the ability to analyze and make decisions (“Should I bring an umbrella on my walk?”)
  • Visuospatial involves seeing spatial relationships between objects (“Is there enough room for me to walk around the couch without tripping over it?”)
  • Language involves reading, comprehension, and word use (the ability to understand what you read, say, and hear)
  • Calculation involves anything to do with numbers or mathematical thinking (“How much is that 50% off sale going to save me?”)

Simply put, Brain Fitness exercises “wake up your brain”

like Body Fitness exercises wake up your body”

A:  Have you ever walked into a room and forgotten why you went in there?

Perhaps the cause was that an area of your brain was sleeping…maybe you were distracted or worrying about something else. What we have witnessed over and over again is that stress and memory DO NOT get along at all! The way to fix this? Waking up your brain by engaging the six areas of cognitive function!

We have helped our clients (always with humor!) better understand the situations of forgetfulness that they are not always able to recognize themselves. While presenting our programs, we explain in several different ways why distractions play a big part in forgetfulness and that FOCUS IS KEY to remembering and waking up your brain.

A: Our Brain Fitness program is inspired by many years of practical experience using the clinically proven dakim® BrainFitness™ system.

Since 2008, we have offered:

  • Focus groups (5 to 20 participants)
  • Large groups (25 to 50 participants)
  • One-to-one individual sessions
  • Training for caregivers and families

One of the phrases used throughout our programs, no matter what the cognitive level of participants, is that Focus is Key… You can’t remember something you don’t know!

What Folks Say About Us:

C.R. (director of activities, assisted and independent living facility)

Tee and Paul's classes are very popular with our residents...I often hear comments later about how much they enjoyed the class, how fun it was, and how much they learned. We are grateful to Tee and Paul for all they do for us and our residents. They are considered "family" by all that know them here.

K.R. (family member of one-to-one program participant)

This program has been a tremendous source of emotional comfort as well as providing valuable memory advice for my 88-year-old mother. Their Brain Fitness exercise recommendations were customized for the cognitive areas she needed help with as well as the areas she is confident with. This builds her confidence and enhances her sense of pride. Tee and Paul understand my mother well, and possess an appreciation of the challenges and frustrations that an aging individual experiences.

M.W. (longtime client and program attendee)

I have been living with a traumatic brain injury resulting from an auto accident in 1984...for over 30 years, I have been dealing with long & short-term memory loss. Tee Barr has the teaching skills that I needed to retain information...I finally got it: FOCUS, FOCUS, FOCUS, no multi-tasking...Brain training, word puzzles, and learning the six areas of the cognitive brain have all given me back my self-confidence. I can remember names better. Written instructions are now easier to follow, and it's fun to balance my bank statement. Tee is a wonderful motivational teacher. She is patient, animated, and enthusiastic about the material she provides. If one suggestion isn’t a 100% “B I N G O” as she likes to say, she comes up with many more. She got me out of my denial and into discovering new ways to learn.

R.W. (director of activities, assisted living facility)

Tee and Paul...You make my residents soar...They love you: your work, program, and contagious energy makes Brain Fitness so special.

L.B. (certified senior advisor, care manager/advocate)

Tee is the BEST! Love her smile, positive demeanor, and all her unique suggestions for the individuals in our program. The families were always treated with such respect and compassion! Thank you, Tee!!!

E.M. (director of adult day programs, senior center)

It is wonderful to work with you. Watching you conduct the Brain Fitness trainings for the staff and participants was great. To see the participants smiling and being engaged was wonderful. THANK YOU!

A.G. (geriatric care manager)

The Brain Fitness program is a valuable tool that engages my client’s attention and stimulates her mental awareness. I have watched my client excel in mind exercises when others might have questioned my client’s ability. Scholarly articles clearly state that mental stimulation and socialization are tools to healthy aging, and Ms. Barr’s Brain Fitness program provides those benefits.

S.H. & A.H. [large group participants]

While caring for our three youngest grandchildren for a long weekend, we took them with us to our Brain Fitness class. All three (ages 14, 12, and 7) agreed that the class was one of the highlights of our time together. We could tell during the class that they were participating and enjoying what was going on, excited to implement what they learned for tests in school. Thank you for each of your very interesting and informative sessions, which we look forward to every week.
